Description

Enhanced 12W+12W Stereo Audio Power Amplifier Module

The STK4372 is an upgraded thick-film hybrid integrated circuit from Sanyo's legendary audio series. Delivering a continuous 12 Watts per channel, this 15-pin module provides superior power and headroom compared to its smaller siblings (STK4332/4352). It was a premium choice for high-fidelity portable stereos, luxury tabletop radios, and high-quality CRT television audio stages during the 1980s and early 90s.

Built using Sanyo's proprietary Insulated Metal Substrate Technology (IMST), the STK4372 offers excellent thermal stability and requires minimal external components. With a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of 1.0% at full rated power, it delivers that characteristic warm, musical analog sound that vintage audio enthusiasts prize.

Key Technical Features:

  • Continuous Power Output: 12W + 12W (at 8Ω, f = 1kHz, THD = 1.0%).
  • Configuration: 2-Channel Stereo in a 15-Pin SIP (Single In-line Package).
  • Distortion: Low typical distortion (0.3%) at lower output levels (0.1W).
  • Frequency Response: Full-range high-fidelity from 20Hz to 100kHz (+0, -3dB).
  • Thermal Reliability: Guaranteed operation up to 125°C substrate temperature.
  • Operating Voltage: Recommended supply of 35V DC (Absolute Maximum 54V).

Installation & Safety Guide:

Even at 12W, the STK4372 generates localized heat that must be properly managed. It must be securely mounted to the device's internal metal chassis or a dedicated heatsink with high-quality thermal silicone grease. Operating this module without proper heatsinking—even for a five-second diagnostic check—will cause immediate and permanent internal substrate failure.

Technician's Note: Before installation, verify your power supply rail is stable (ideally around 35V). We strongly recommend checking the output coupling capacitors (typically 470μF to 1000μF), as aged electrolytic capacitors are the primary cause of module stress and audio clipping in vintage restorations.
